PRACTICAL NOVELTY

Terafest® composite terraces
montage ruka

You must be wondering what composite wood is. It is basically a wood plastic material (WPC), but wood predominates in the composition of Terafest®. That is why our wood plastic composite deckings look so natural, are pleasant to the touch, and also experience some colour maturation in the first few months after installation.

The advantage of Terafes® is undoubtedly its resistance to weathering and also to pests. As a result, there is no need to impregnate the composite decking surface with any protective coating.

Avoid cheap substitutes

There is a huge variety of wood-plastic patio systems on the market, and many of them are tempting because of their low price (especially those available in hobby markets). However, these are often cheap Chinese replacements. Instead of a wooden component, they are ground up with all sorts of waste—from rice husks to paper to plastic of unknown quality. Such a WPC board lasts with misery for two years and begins to crumble. How to avoid such disappointment?

Bet on the Czech manufacturer Woodplastic, which makes no secret of the fact that it has purchased a licence from Strandex in the USA. The latter has been developing wood-plastic materials for decades. The licence is a guarantee of both product quality and correct production procedures. Woodplastic exports its composite wood decking boards to 21 countries around the world, and its Terafest® composite wood terraces are among the best quality in Europe.

Composition of Terafest®

60% wood

The production uses softwood flour obtained from PEFC-certified European forests (forests that are sustainably managed and, therefore, never harvest more wood than the forest grows in a year).

Up to 40% polymer

There are many types of plastics, and each has slightly different properties. Some polymers become brittle when it is frozen or have reduced UV resistance. HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which also contains Terafest®, seems to be the best for making WPC components.

Up to 10% is accounted for by pigments and binders.

Even though they make up only a small part of the composite, they are the most important and, at the same time, the most costly component. They have a major influence on the durability and colour fastness of the material outdoors. Each manufacturer of wood plastic keeps its exact recipe scrupulously secret. But whoever skimps on the additives simply can’t make their wood plastic composite decking last. Fortunately, this is not the case with Woodplastic’s Terafest® composite timber.

ARCHITECT'S TIP
Terafest® adapts to every terrace shape

Unlike other wood plastics, Terafest® boards can be bent with heat. So you can Unlike other wood-based materials, Terafest® boards can be bent with heat. So, you can shape the boards to suit atypical swimming pools or garden ponds. The boards are also resistant to pool chemistry, chlorinated and salt water. Of course, they do not change their shape because they are exclusively solid profiles that do not twist in the sun.

Colour maturation

Terafest® composite material is a long-term colour-stable material, but only in the first few months after installation does it acquire its final colour. It gradually lightens (the wood component of the boards matures due to water and UV radiation), but it will never turn grey like natural wood.

That’s why we also recommend not covering the new patio with furniture right away (or moving it around the patio occasionally). If the patio is partially covered, the part under the roof will mature significantly slower than the part that is in direct sun and rain. We recommend that the roofed part of the terrace is regularly sprayed with water.
